BMW, “virtual production” at the future plant in Debrecen March 23, 2023 0

New BMW Group plant in Debrecen will enter service in 2025. However, more than two years before the official launch of mass production, the “automotive industry” is already in full swing, at least virtually using the most advanced digital technologies. In fact, for its new plant, the German group will use the skills of its partner. Nvidia.

HOW IT WORKS?

To test and optimize complex production systems in its production network, the BMW Group will use NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise Platform which allows you to create and manage industrial applications in the metaverse in 3D, perform real-time digital simulations and virtually optimize layout, robotics and logistics systems. A platform that will be extended to all factories of the German group in the future.

NVIDIA Omniverse makes it easy to collaborate across locations and time zones and takes the planning and design of facilities, manufacturing systems and processes to a whole new level of technology. It works like a “cockpit”, offering quick and easy access to BMW’s digital planning.

The potential of this technology in the automotive sector was showcased at NVIDIA GTC, the global conference for the age of AI and the Metaverse. Therefore, by using this platform at the new plant, the German group can already virtually plan the production of new vehicles even before the plant goes live. Jensen Huangfounder and CEO of NVIDIA, commented:

Digitalization in the automotive industry is moving at a very fast pace and BMW is leading the way in driving this vision forward. We are working closely with BMW using NVIDIA Omniverse to streamline manufacturing processes, improve collaboration and increase efficiency. Our collaboration will continue to push the boundaries of virtual integration for the next generation of smart connected factories around the world.

Finally, it should be recalled that the next generation of all-electric BMW Group models based on the Neue Klasse platform will be produced at the Debrecen plant.
