In Russia, they will mass-produce the shock aircraft “Hunter”: how long will it last

The Novosibirsk Aviation Plant, which produces bombers for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, will be tasked with the assembly of heavy unmanned aerial vehicles.

In Novosibirsk, they plan to start mass production of the S-70 Okhotnik attack aircraft. This was announced on April 25 by Sergei Semka, Deputy Governor of the Novosibirsk Region, the Russian TASS agency reported.

According to him, the Russians, VP, which produces the Su-34 and Su-24M bombers, is an example of this aircraft, but even according to the most optimistic forecasts of the governor, this will happen in two years at the latest. To do this, the factory needs to modernize the equipment.

The S-70 Okhotnik was developed in the design bureau of the Sukhoi company, which also deals with Russian warplanes. It was built according to the “flying wing” scheme and technology that reduces radar visibility. According to Alexei Krivoruchko, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, the UAV will be able to perform a large number of tasks both independently and in conjunction with manned aircraft.

Serial deliveries are scheduled from 2024, according to the developers. It is claimed that an unmanned aerial vehicle with a take-off weight of up to 20 tons can accelerate to 1,000 km per hour. It first took off in August 2019 and spent 20 minutes in the air and flew a Su-57 fighter jet in September.

Known features of the “Hunter”:

  • length – 14 m;
  • wingspan: 19 m;
  • combat load: 2.8 tons, according to other sources – up to 8 tons;
  • maximum speed: 1400 km / h (at low altitude), according to other sources – about 1000 km / h;
  • maximum altitude: 18,000 m;
  • flight range: 6000 km.

In May, Valeriy Yakovenko, founder of the Ukrainian UAV company DroneUA, evaluated the future of the Russian Okhotnik drone. According to him, Russians often overestimate the characteristics of their equipment and are not able to manufacture complex components, preferring to buy them abroad. At the same time, many details of the Russian Federation are no longer available due to international sanctions.

In December, Russia announced that the Okhotnik fighter jet could reach space if equipped with improved engines. American experts doubted this explanation and suggested that the drone would be used to suppress air defense.
