Third try. Elon Musk reveals when Starship rocket will try to go into space again

A new launch of the world’s most powerful rocket should be expected no earlier than mid-summer.

The giant space rocket Starship will make its second and hopefully more successful flight into space 1.5-2 months later. This was expressed by SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Overall, this will be the third attempt for this megarocket to enter near-Earth space, Space writes.

For the first time, the world’s most powerful Starship rocket, consisting of a carrier rocket and a spacecraft, was supposed to put the second into orbit on April 17. But due to emerging technical problems, as I wrote earlier, this first full-fledged test launch of a fully assembled two-stage rocket was delayed. Focus.

On April 20, a 120-foot Starship rocket still took off from SpaceX space center in Texas, but exploded after a few minutes of flight. So, as I wrote earlier, the experts of the Elon Musk company have activated the flight termination system themselves. Focus. So this will be Starship’s third launch attempt and its second full-fledged flight, which won’t happen until mid-summer.

Last time the booster was supposed to leave the spacecraft and send it on a 90-minute journey around Earth. Both the first stage of the Starship rocket and the spacecraft were supposed to bounce back and splash into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico (booster) and Pacific Ocean (spacecraft). In any case, the Starship rocket managed to reach an altitude of 39km above the Earth’s surface, and Elon Musk said it was even more than he expected.

Of the 33 engines of the Super Heavy launch vehicle (this is the first stage of the Starship rocket), 30 (3 engines never fired) caused minor damage to the launchpad during launch. Now SpaceX engineers are working on retrofitting it as well as restoring it so it can better withstand the new Starship rocket launch.

According to Elon Musk, a new launch into space will be possible in 6-8 weeks. The purpose of this repeated test flight is the same: a 50-metre Starship spacecraft must complete a spacewalk and then return safely.

But in addition to solving technical problems, SpaceX needs to obtain launch clearance from the US Federal Aviation Administration. So far, the regulator, along with Musk’s company, is investigating the reasons for the April 20 failed flight.

As already written FocusThe European company Airbus has introduced an artificial gravity space station that can replace the orbiting ISS.
