Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition is the first historically themed Works V8 created by Land Rover Classic Division. This special model will only be produced in 30 units in versions 90 and 110and had to go to celebrate both Spencer Wilks, managing director of the Rover Car Company and one of the founders of Land Rover, is based in Islay, Scotland, where Spencer Wilkes spent his holidays and tested his prototypes. The series is also an important part of the Land Rover brand’s 75th anniversary initiatives.
30 Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Editions were built using cars produced from 2012 to 2016 completely restored and updated. They are identifiable by their Heritage Gray paintwork inspired by the Mid Gray paint on the original Wilkes car, with a contrasting roof and steel wheels finished entirely in limestone. Traditional Land Rover badges and logos are painted in body color.
There is also a touch of modernity thanks to the presence of LED headlights as well as improved brakes and suspension. Inside, Land Rover Windsor Ebony leather covers the premium seats, side trim, doors, headlining and instrument panel. The original dashboard now includes a “Classic Infotainment System” that offers modern features such as a navigator. The steering wheel and seat headrests are embossed with the Land Rover Heritage logo, while the footwell is carpeted. In addition, in different parts of the cabin we find Islay Woolen Mill tweed upholstery.
Near the gear lever is a plaque detailing the history of the birth of the Land Rover name. Between the two front seats, inside the center armrest compartment, is a removable tray with leather overhangs and oak inserts.
Speaking of technical specifications, the exclusive Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition can count on 5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine with 405 hp and 515 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes 5.6 seconds and top speed reaches 106 mph (about 170 km/h). The Defender Islay Edition has price £230,000 (about €259,300) for the 90 and £245,000 (about €276,200) for the 110.
