Mercury goes retrograde, but it still means nothing to your life: Here’s why

As sometimes happens, you have to blame yourself for your problems more often than the planet closest to the Sun.

Mercury is currently retrograde as some believe. You can often hear the expression “Mercury retrograde”, and this supposedly somehow affects a person’s life. For some people, the message of Mercury retrograde is an excuse for failure in life. But instead of blaming the planet closest to the Sun, it’s better to focus on achieving your goals that will lead to a better life. IFLScience writes about what retrograde motion really means and whether Mercury will affect a person’s life.

Some people still believe that the movement of Mercury, which is 86 million km away from us, greatly affects their lives. This is especially true for people who believe in astrological predictions and, having learned about Mercury retrograde, immediately blame the planet for all their misfortunes.

What is retrograde motion?

All planets go retrograde because they revolve around the Sun, not the Earth. All planets rotate in the same direction. Sometimes it looks like they’re changing their flight path for a while and moving in the opposite direction. At least when viewed from Earth. But actually this is an optical illusion. So the planets don’t stop to reverse their flight path. Believing that Mercury is retrograde is comparable to believing that the Earth is the center of the universe or that the Sun revolves around the Earth.

The retrograde motion of planets, which can be observed in the sky and which is not correct as mentioned before, is due to the fact that all planets have different speeds of motion in their orbits. For example, Mars moves around the Sun more slowly than our planet. When Earth passes near Mars, that planet is moving in the opposite direction, so Mars may appear retrograde. However, Mercury revolves around the Sun faster than our planet. That’s why Mercury also has a retrograde motion that looks real when viewed from Earth.

The influence of Mercury retrograde on people

As mentioned above, the closer the planet is to the Sun, the faster it orbits our star. If it takes about 365 days for the Earth to make a complete revolution around the Sun, Mercury only takes 88 days. By the way, there are planets outside the solar system that are so close to their stars that they complete one revolution around them in a few Earth days.

If we take as a basis the scientific work of Isaac Newton called “Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy”, which first explained the law of universal gravitation, with the help of this study you can find out how much other planets affect people. Considering that a person weighs 60 kg, the force that the person transfers to Mercury and which Mercury transfers back to the person is approximately 1.7×10 minus the seventh force of the Newton. This is about 1/5 the weight of an eyelash hair. That is, such an effect, if considered according to the laws of physics, cannot cause any harm to a person. Although some continue to believe otherwise.

As already written Focus, scientists figured out how Mercury formed, whose core is much larger than it should be. So, compared to the size of the planet, its core is really huge.
