During a press conference held on the occasion of Computex in Taipei, Rick Tsai and Jensen Huang, CEOs of MediaTek and NVIDIA, announced a new partnership between the two companies to develop an increasingly comprehensive range of “smart and connected solutions” for automotive infotainment systems next generation by combining the strengths of its technology portfolio in this area.
As part of this collaboration, which has already been announced in recent weeks, MediaTek will develop systems-on-a-chip for the automotive sector, integrating AI-based chiplets and Nvidia’s graphics intellectual property. These chiplets, essentially processors, will be connected to each other using high-speed “coherent interconnect technology” and will work together as one larger chip smoothly and efficiently. MediaTek will also use NVIDIA DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and Tensor software technologies on these new SoCs.
With today’s announcement, MediaTek aims to further raise the bar for its automotive offerings. In fact, through this partnership, MediaTek will also have the opportunity expand the capabilities of Dimension Autoits automotive platform including Auto Cockpit which offers support for smart multiple displays, wide dynamic range cameras and audio processing, Auto Drive, Auto Component and Auto Connect.
According to Rick Tsai, vice president and general manager of MediaTek, this partnership with NVIDIA will enable the creation of a “truly unique platform for the cars of the future” that will have high processing power. For Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, the combination of technology from the two companies will enable “New user experience, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to mainstream.”
