The creation of an IT apiary was first known in January 2023. The project was brought to life thanks to Ukrainian and Polish developers.
The world’s first IT beehive was opened in the Kiev region. This was reported by the Kiev TV channel on Wednesday, May 31.
The beehive is equipped with polypropylene hives.
The hives themselves are equipped with solar panels and sensors that can be controlled from a smartphone. With the application on the phone, you can control the temperature, humidity, real-time weight, and the amount of honey collected in the hive.
The app also supports GPS navigation.
What is known about the “beehive of the future”
People first started talking about the “beehive of the future” in January 2023. Then the media wrote that a hi-tech apiary with automatic beehives will be built in the Kiev region. On the basis of the apiary, it was planned to train schoolchildren in the new direction “Informatics and beekeeping”.
The project will be implemented thanks to a joint venture of Ukrainian and Polish developers called “AmoHive”. Its purpose is to help scientists who study diseases of bees, their wintering, as well as create new food and drugs for insects.
Recall that in 2019, Ukrainian and Polish scientists created a “smart beehive”. The author of this project said that the “beehives of the future” will allow the creation of a completely new market in the country – the pollination market, the impact of which is estimated by various sources between 2 and 4 billion dollars per year.
The media also wrote that in 2010 archaeologists discovered the oldest beehive. Excavations at the ancient settlement of Tel Rehov in the Jordan Valley have uncovered traces of the world’s oldest beekeeping farm, which worked more than three thousand years ago.
