Subaru and Aisin agreement to develop eAxle for electric vehicles April 02, 2024 1

Subaru is taking its electrification project one step further. Indeed, the automaker announced agreement with Aisin for co-development and co-production of eAxle Designed for use on electric models. To create them, both companies will use their experience in developing vehicles and powertrains.

The new power units that Subaru and Aisin will create will find their place inside new BEV cars which the automaker will begin producing in the second half of the decade. Subaru explains:

This joint development, based on the concepts of high efficiency, lightness and compactness, aims to achieve different aspects of performance, taking into account the conditions in which customers will use their vehicles. In addition, both companies will evaluate parts suppliers and explore optimal production patterns to support and develop the existing supply chain, which is undergoing significant changes as vehicle electrification advances.

Unfortunately, other details of the agreement have not been disclosed. Therefore, we do not know anything about the technical characteristics of the new eAxles that both companies will develop and produce. More details will likely emerge as the new electric vehicles debut closer.

PANASONIC BATTERIES

However, this is an interesting new product for the automaker. We remember that quite recently, Subaru announced another important deal for an electrification project. In fact, Subaru said it has reached an agreement with Panasonic to supply of batteries with cylindrical cells. Batteries that the company will use in its upcoming next-generation electric vehicles that it will produce in the second half of the decade.
