The ELI-3312 Huntereye is equipped with sensors and radars to detect, classify and track enemy fire sources.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has presented a solution to protect tanks from warheads launched by drones, according to military recognition reports.
Previously, the army used the Cope Cage protection system for Merkava tanks, which was also used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It consists of a metal mesh attached to the top of the tanks. The network was intended to intercept anti-tank shells dropped by drones and prevent them from exploding. Although this workaround proved effective to a certain extent, engineers set out to create a more advanced protection system.
IAI’s Elta division recently introduced the ELI-3312 Huntereye, an advanced system equipped with target detection sensors. The device can integrate with both light and heavy remote-controlled weapon stations (RWS), as well as battle tanks.
ELI-3312 Huntereye is capable of detecting, classifying and tracking fire sources, providing real-time situational awareness. Combining the capabilities of two primary sensors into a single system, this system includes a ground surveillance radar and an integrated electro-optical (EO) fire source sensor for rapid detection and identification.
Important
Unfortunately, the developers did not reveal more details about the system to protect tanks from drones. However, counter-UAV systems are becoming increasingly popular among various militaries around the world, and it would not be surprising if such products hit the market.
We’ve previously reported how drone defense has led to an engineering frenzy. In their desire to protect themselves from Ukrainian drones at all costs, the Russians are reaching the point of absurdity. Military observer Alexander Kovalenko points out the latest example of this type, which turns a tank into a barn or hangar.
