NIO brings new electric SUV NIO EL8, known as ES8 in China. This new model will be available for the first time in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden, as well as Norway, where the previous generation paved the way for NIO’s entry into the European market. In fact, NIO started its adventure in the European market from Norway by introducing the previous generation of electric SUV as its first vehicle. Now the latest model on the NT2.0 platform comes out under the name NIO EL8.
The appearance of this model is nothing new, considering that we have talked several times about the latest generation NIO ES8 sold in China. This is an SUV with very large dimensions. What size Length 5,099 mm, width 1,989 mm, height 1,750 mm, wheelbase 3,070 mm. The numbers make it clear that this model is capable of offering a lot of space inside. In fact, it may accommodate up to 6 passengers in 3 rows of seats. The NIO EL8 is available in 5 different colors and features Matrix LED headlights.
As for the interior, the style is minimalistic, like all NIO models. Obviously there is a lot of technology here. Behind the steering wheel is a digital instrument cluster, and in the center of the dashboard is 12.8″ AMOLED infotainment display. There’s also a 16.3-inch head-up display. It is obvious that environmentally friendly materials were used for interior decoration. As standard we also find an audio system with Dolby Atmos support, characterized by the presence of 23 speakers. Obviously, support for OTA updates, allowing you to improve the car’s characteristics and add new ones.
The SUV offers a cargo capacity of 265 liters in a 6-seater configuration, but the volume can be increased to 880 liters by folding down the rear seatbacks.
The powertrain of the new NIO EL8 consists of double electric motor. A 180 kW unit is installed at the front, and a 300 kW unit at the rear. Therefore, all-wheel drive is also available. In terms of performance, the electric SUV is capable of acceleration. From 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. NIO also reports the inverse value, that is, the distance required to brake from 100 km/h to 0: 34.3 meters. The maximum speed is 200 km/h.
The electric SUV can be purchased with one battery 75 kWh (net 73.5 kWh) or 100 kWh (useful 90 kWh) for autonomy according to the WLTP cycle, respectively 390 km and 510 km. If we talk about charging, then using direct current it will be possible to replenish energy from an HPC column with a maximum power of 140 kW or 185 kW with a battery of the highest capacity. However, AC can charge up to 11 kW.
Being a NIO model, the SUV is apparently compatible with the battery swapping stations that the Chinese car maker has started installing in some European countries where it has launched. In April, there were just over 40 of them in Europe. The NIO EL8 can also count on an adaptive suspension that will provide the best driving quality in all road conditions.
In terms of driving assistance systems, NIO EL8 has NIO AQUILA Super Sensing Platform which can count on 33 sensors (including LiDAR).
NIO EL8 can be purchased with either a leased or your own battery. If you look at Germany, in the first case prices start from 82,900 euros in the Comfort package and from 87,900 euros in the Executive package. A monthly fee will then be added depending on the battery chosen: €169 for a 75 kWh battery or €289 for a 100 kWh battery.
For those who want their own battery, the NIO EL8 starts at €94,900 (75 kWh) but approaches €110,000 (€108,900 to be exact) for the Executive version with a 100 kWh battery. The first deliveries are expected in September.
