The change will affect Google TV and Android TV devices, as well as the Google TV mobile app for Android and iOS.
Google is phasing out Google TV to YouTube, but only for certain content. The Sun reports on the tech giant’s new strategy.
Starting August 2024, users will no longer be able to purchase content through Google TV, but will be able to do so from YouTube, depending on availability in their country. The company has officially announced the changes, stating that they will come into effect in the next few weeks.
However, users won’t lose access to their favorite content, as the change will only affect the ability to purchase new shows. Google says customers will be able to save content they’ve previously purchased and continue renting it through the app. The change will affect Google TV and Android TV devices, as well as the Google TV mobile app for Android and iOS. All TV shows purchased on YouTube will only be available to watch through the YouTube app or YouTube.
The tech giant is also ending support for the Personal Safety app on older Android phones. It will only support devices running Android 12 or later. However, this change will only affect third-party smartphones, leaving Pixel users unaffected.
