The ground-based drone not only survived the anti-personnel mine explosion, but also saved the injured man from further injury.
Ukrainian Volya-E ground robot platform successfully evacuated a wounded soldier, passing through a minefield and withstanding multiple explosions. The creator of the drone told about this in the framework of the YouTube project of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Warchangers.
As the developer noted, the Volya-E robot found itself in a minefield while evacuating a wounded man. After the first explosion, a cloud of dust and dirt was created, but to the surprise of the military, a robot emerged from this cloud and continued its movement. The drone then hit anti-personnel mines twice more. Despite this, the device successfully completed the mission, evacuating the wounded.
“This case showed that even during the explosion of three anti-personnel mines, the injured did not receive a single additional damage,” the platform’s creator said.
According to the developer, the idea of creating the platform was born from a call from a comrade who fought on the front lines. He mentioned the problems of rapid evacuation of the wounded, which led to losses. After one year and four months of work, a compact drone “Volya” was created, capable of transporting soldiers from hard-to-reach areas of the front. The tracked track allows the device to reach areas that other types of robots cannot reach. In addition to evacuation, the robot also delivers ammunition and supplies to soldiers.
Important
“Volya-E” is a completely Ukrainian development. The only thing that was purchased abroad is the control and communication system. A fighter with experience in controlling other unmanned systems will need 10-15 minutes to understand the Volya-E control algorithm. But to use the drone effectively, you need schools, instructors, tactics and strategy.
Technical characteristics of the robot “Volya-E”:
- length – 135 centimeters;
- width – 98 centimeters;
- height – 45 centimeters;
- weight – 174 kilograms;
- load capacity – 150 kilograms;
- working time 2.5 hours;
- Power reserve is 22 kilometers.
Let us remind that according to the statement of the Ministry of Digital Development dated June 21, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have already evacuated a hundred wounded soldiers from the battlefield with the help of the Volya-E ground platform. So, at the end of last year, a drone removed more than twenty wounded soldiers from the battlefield in the Donetsk direction. Many of them could not be evacuated in any other way.
In response, Russian occupiers are using unmanned ground vehicles to deliver ammunition and evacuate wounded from the front lines in Eastern Ukraine. They are controlled remotely using FPV goggles and a remote control.
