The US military has tested the Vision 60 Q-UGV robot dog as part of an exercise to combat enemy drones.
During an Operation Hard Kill exercise at the U.S. Army base Fort Drum, Ghost Robotics’ Vision 60 Q-UGV robot dog was seen armed with an artificial intelligence (AI) AR-15-style rifle, Business Insider writes about.
The exercise is reportedly being conducted by the Army’s 10th Mountain Division and the Weapons Command Development Center. The aim of the event is to provide the U.S. Army and its partners with the opportunity to test counter-drone systems.
In one video from the exercise, you can see the Vision 60 Q-UGV robot dog running and maneuvering with an AR-15-style rifle, a guidance system and a GoPro-type camera mounted on the front of the body. According to the military, the rifle is potentially equipped with artificial intelligence for automatic targeting.
Considering the objectives of the exercise, the publication concluded that the robot dog was tested as a tool against drones. The American “robotic dog” will probably detect and shoot down unmanned vehicles.
As the authors of the release note note, the device in question is similar to other robot dogs created by U.S. Armed Forces units. Earlier in the exercise, “robodogs” were seen accompanying a light infantry unit for environmental reconnaissance.
Let’s recall that in May, Chinese military personnel participated in the Golden Dragon 2024 exercise in Cambodia, demonstrating a robot dog equipped with a machine gun. According to Chinese soldiers, it will be able to take part in urban combat operations, replacing people.
Also, military personnel from the Kurt & Company unit showed off robot dogs for the first time at the beginning of the month, releasing several videos taken in Toretsk. There is no video, but the robot moves quickly over rough terrain and films the road ahead with a camera. The military did not name the model of the robot, but judging by its appearance, it is the Unitree Go2 PRO from the Chinese firm Unitree Robotics.
