New home battery lasts 12,000 cycles, charges quickly and lasts 48 years

With a maximum discharge power of 20 kW, the Ampere.StoragePro system offers charge and discharge speeds 4 times faster than traditional systems.

German manufacturer Energiekonzepte Deutschland (EKD) has introduced its Ampere.StoragePro (ASP) home battery system. Interestingengineering.com tells us how it works.

Ampere.StoragePro sets new standards in performance and flexibility for modern energy storage systems. Laboratory tests have proven that the ASP has a potential service life of up to 48 years. This is well above the industry average of 24 years. This longevity can be attributed to an advanced integrated security system that constantly monitors the home’s energy network and proactively shuts down in response to any voltage, temperature or current fluctuations. The inclusion of additional sensors further enhances system security by detecting potential short circuits or incorrect installations before they become problems.

In practice, EKD guarantees full performance for 10 years.

“Even after 10 years, Ampere.StoragePro retains most of its original capacity, making it a sustainable and cost-effective solution for long-term energy storage,” the company says.

This is because the developers used prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, which are known for their safety and ability to last up to 12,000 charge cycles. LiFePO4 cells are also considered super safe as they do not contain toxic chemicals and have a high level of thermal stability.

ASP not only offers superior service life, but also redefines performance standards. The charging and discharging speed is 4 times faster than conventional systems, and the peak discharge power is 20 kW. System efficiency is further increased by the addition of a 12 kW three-phase inverter, three independent MPP trackers and intelligent shading control technology. EKD claims that this combination can lead to an impressive 20% increase in actual storage performance.

Flexibility is another important feature of the ASP. It is available in 6 different versions offering storage capacities from 6.6 kWh to 23.1 kWh.

The battery effectively stores energy for evening and night use, helping you get maximum solar energy even on cloudy days.

We have previously written that an organic naphthalene-based battery can withstand 850 cycles and retain 99.95% of its capacity. In tests, a naphthalene flow battery showed stable performance for 850 cycles (about 40 days) when used with 1.5 mol/L electrolyte.
