Stellantis will extend the closure of Mirafiori until January 20, 2025.. This news was reported by Gianni Mannori, head of the FIOM-Cgil trade union at the Turin plant. At the end of November, the Group announced that production of the electric FIAT 500 would be stopped for the whole of December before resuming in January 2025 after Epiphany.
According to the union, it appears that the stop will be extended for another two weeks. The Stellantis Group has not yet announced any further production stoppages at this time, but an announcement is expected soon.
The reason why Stellantis stops producing Mirafiori is always the same: low demand for electric FIAT 500. At the end of November, a Stellantis spokesperson said:
The BEV city car segment in Europe was down 54% in the first 10 months of the year compared to the same period in 2023, while in Italy the BEV share is at a very low level of around 4%. This is not enough to maintain continuity of production. In this scenario, the decision to produce the new 500 Hybrid in Mirafiori is in line with the brand’s social responsibility.
Therefore, the difficult moment at the Mirafiori plant continues in anticipation of the presentation by Stellantis of the new FIAT 500 hybrid.
According to the group’s plans, the new FIAT 500 hybrid, based on the current electric 500, will take care of the revival of Mirafiori production. Arrival is expected around November next year, and the plant is expected to produce around 100,000 units per year.
