The long-awaited restyling of Tesla Model Y (code name Juniper) was finally presented. However, as we have seen, at the moment it was only available in China or, at least, only in the countries served by the Shanghai Gigafactory. In Europe? We don’t yet know when it will arrive, so we can only wait for news directly from the car manufacturer. At the same time, always further information comes from China about the new electric SUV.
We know that Elon Musk’s company usually doesn’t provide much technical information about its cars. The website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) comes to our aid, where the technical passport of the new Tesla Model Y has appeared. As we know, cars must receive approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China to be sold in China. MIIT. An interesting aspect is that the maps published in this database include technical information which the manufacturer may not have provided yet. Let’s dive into the details.
New Tesla Model Y size Juniper Length 4797 mm, width 2129 mm (with mirrors) and height 1624 mm. With the facelift, as we have already seen, there is an important change in appearance: a completely redesigned front end, which now has a slight signature, somewhat reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck. The rear has also been redesigned, with C-shaped headlights linked together by a light strip. The interventions also affected the interior with innovations that we, in fact, already saw with the restyling of the Tesla Model 3.
At the moment, the Tesla Model Y Juniper is offered in two versions. The first with a single electric motor and LFP batteries, the second with a dual motor, all-wheel drive and NMC batteries.
Thanks to MIIT, we are getting more information about power units. In detail, Tesla Model Y RWD uses Electric motor 3D6 with a power of 220 kW (299 hp) in combination with one CATL battery with LFP cells with one power 62.5 kWh. The range of this variant is 593 km, which is 39 km more than the previous model. However, be careful, these are the values according to the Chinese CLTC cycle.
Instead, the Long Range model takes Electric motors 3D3 and 3D7 with a power of 137 kW (186 hp) and 194 kW (264 hp). In this case, the power unit is activated 78.4 kWh NMC battery which provides a range of 719 km, again in accordance with the Chinese CLTC approval cycle. Interestingly, judging by the images of the SUV’s sheet, the Long Range version, at least in China, could be called Model Y+.
Judging by the Chinese configurator, Deliveries are expected to begin in March.pending regulatory approval.
