Die Hard and Top Gun star Clarence Gilyard Jr dies

The actress got some roles as she teaches at the College of Fine Arts.

Top Gun and Die Hard stars Clarence Gilyard Jr. He died at the age of 66. The university where he taught reported that he passed away after “a long illness”. The Daily Mail writes about it.

Clarence became famous for his roles in popular 1980s movies and TV series. He starred opposite Tom Cruise in “Top Gun” and played Lieutenant Marcus “Sundown” Williams, and in “Die Hard” he played Theo, the hacker who hacked into Nakatomi Plaza’s security system.

He also appeared in the TV series “Matlock” and “Walker, Texas Ranger” with Chuck Norris.

But at the height of his career, Clarence quit acting and became a professor of cinema and theater at the UNLV College of Fine Arts.

Gilyard took a professional leave after twenty years in Hollywood and earned a Master of Arts degree in theatrical arts.

Reflecting on her decision to suspend her own career to focus on teaching, the actress admitted she found it “very funny”.

She said in 2010 her manager was unhappy, but the university was too fun to quit teaching.

“When you start the term and you meet these students, it’s like a series. You bond with them. And how can you break up with them when you see that they’re attached to you in their eyes? They have a desire to grow up on their own during these 15 weeks,” Clarence said.

The Die Hard star has been married twice and has six children from his second marriage.

Let us remind you that Wilko Johnson, the actor and punk rocker who played the dark mute executioner Ilin Payne in the cult TV series Game of Thrones, has passed away before.
