A beautiful and very tasty salad, its main feature is crispy potato straws.

Salad “Capercaillie’s Nest” is one of the classic salads that will decorate your holiday table and add variety to the standard set of Russian salad and herring under a fur coat. A characteristic difference of this popular salad is in its original design.

The salad is made in the form of phyllo and decorated with potato straws. Quail eggs are placed in the “nest”.

Salad “Capercaillie Nest”

Contents:

  • Potatoes (for potato sticks) – 3-5 pcs.;
  • Vegetable oil for deep fat;
  • chicken fillet – 200-250 g;
  • three quail eggs for decoration;
  • Four chicken eggs;
  • half an onion;
  • pickled cucumbers – 150 g;
  • hard cheese – 100 g;
  • Mayonnaise, salt, pepper.

To begin with, prepare the main “highlight” of the salad – potato sticks. Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin strips. Transfer the straws to a colander or sieve and rinse with cold water to remove the starch. Shake well, let the water run off and dry with a paper towel.

Roast straws should be deep fried in small portions and make sure that they do not burn. The approximate frying time for each serving is about five minutes. As soon as the potato sticks are golden brown, remove them on a paper towel. And salt it. When all the straws are ready, it’s time to collect the salad. Boil three quail eggs for decoration and chicken eggs for salad.

Chicken fillet can be boiled, but it’s boring, so bake it in foil with your favorite seasonings like thyme or rosemary. Cut into cubes or strips.

Cut the pickled cucumbers into strips, the onions into half rings. You can boil it with boiling water to remove excess bitterness, and you can pickle slightly in vinegar water to give it a milder taste. Grate the chicken egg on a coarse grater or cut into cubes. Mix all the ingredients, add half of the potato strips, add mayonnaise and salt to taste, mix gently.

Put the salad on a wide plate, you can use the kitchen ring, cover the remaining potato sticks in the form of nests, decorate with quail eggs. Serve to the table. The important thing is not to make the Capercaillie’s Nest salad in advance, otherwise the straws in the salad will get wet.

You can also prepare an original and beautiful salad “Sunflower” with chicken, mushrooms and chips.
