Just like humans, cats can be shy, friendly, or domineering.
Cats have a personality and temperament that is almost indistinguishable from humans. According to The Washington Post, this conclusion was reached by a team of scientists from the University of South Australia.
Examining research by psychologists who named the five human personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism) known as the “big five,” University staff found very similar traits in animals. Computer analysis, summarizing responses from 2,800 surveys from Australia and New Zealand, identified five broad personality traits of cats and gave the cats points for each.
Three of the “cat quintet” correspond to human traits, while the other two are very close, according to Philip Roetman, head of “civil science” projects at the university, including research on cats.
The “Big Five” cat looks like this:
- cowardice. It’s like neuroticism in humans. Cats that score high on Scarecrow tend to be more anxious and fearful. Calm and trusting cats, however, had lower scores. To make the life of such cats more comfortable, it is necessary to provide them with places to rest, hide from strangers: houses, tunnels, a place under the bed. You don’t need to impose your love and care on them.
- openness. This is the equivalent of extroversion in humans. Very social cats are curious and active. On the one hand, this is very good, but on the other hand, if the cat has nothing to do, it can destroy the whole house in search of entertainment. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the animal busy with something as much as possible.
- sovereignty: This feature is for cats only. Cats that were fearful and aggressive towards their compatriots scored highly. Such an animal does not tolerate competitors in the same habitat and in every possible way spreads rot. In addition, they may quarrel with their masters, not tolerating this or that reaction to their own behavior.
- spontaneity. Another characteristic feature of cats. High scores indicate impulsive, restless cats. You never know what to expect from them. The best way out is to create a specific mod for the animal and not make him angry for no reason.
- sincerity: Like benevolence in people. Very friendly cats tend to be affectionate and sometimes very intrusive. They go after their owners and miss them when they are not home for a long time.
Remember why cats run around the apartment at night, crying loudly.
