January 21, 2023: St. Gregory of the Caves – what not to do today

Today you cannot be lacking and refuse to help.

What happened today:

Today the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Gregory of the Caves.

He lived in the 9th century and was a hermit of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. He spent his whole life in labor and prayers to the Lord, for which he received a special gift – miracles and insight.

Things not to do on January 21:

► work hard

► be offended, upset

► be stingy

► refuse help

Folk signs and beliefs:

► there are often thunderstorms in summer if the wind blows from the south

► if it snows – the last month of summer will be a rainy, sunny day – hot

► if there is a blizzard in the garden it is better not to go on the road, because on Yemelyanov’s day a blizzard is considered especially dangerous

► the windows of the house fog up – until it thaws

► the person who gets sick on this day will recover in a short time

► does not heat immediately if it is cold outside

► frost in the barns – for a rainy summer
