Full-length human candles appear in Danish cities (video)

In Denmark, 44% of young people feel burnout.

According to Western media, statues-candles in the form of men appeared in the largest cities of Denmark as a symbol of burnout. So the activists decided to draw the public’s attention to this problem.

Each of the statues is made of wax and symbolizes what will happen if we don’t act. According to the organizers of these installations, inaction will lead to the entire extinction. It will take about two months for the candles to burn completely, will serve as a very real countdown and a symbol of youth status. In addition to the large candles, small versions of the burnt youth will be given to various stakeholders and featured in TV shows. A special package has been created for politicians, in which it is written what kind of candles they are and what their ministries can do so that young people do not run out.

Five years ago, the World Health Association officially recognized burnout as a new disease. Today, 44% of Danish youth feel exhausted. In addition, the number of young victims is increasing. Danish public radio and television station DR set out to turn the tide and find out what makes young people happy and encourage them to do so more often to avoid burnout. This year, mental health has become part of the curriculum in schools across the country. Danish schools have been participating in Physical Health Day for over 30 years.

“We needed to create a symbol of the youth situation and show the consequences if we didn’t act now. All statues lead to a series of decisions, one of which is Mental Health Day in Danish schools,” said Clara Pryor-Nock. , Creative Director of Uncle Grey. It was this organization that came up with the project and implemented it.

“For years we have focused on the importance of physical health, now is the time to focus on staying mentally fit. We hope that through this project we can shed light on its importance and help young people understand that they are not alone in this. Because we are here to help them through a range of initiatives,” added the company’s COO. Charlotte Porsager.

Candles are made from a mixture of paraffin and stearin. Each statue weighs approximately 85 kg. It took eight weeks to make the candles. Each figure is hidden inside a plexiglass cube.
