Kate Middleton rejects Queen Elizabeth II’s historic request: details

In 2006, William and Kate had been dating for about five years, but the son of the British king was in no hurry to propose.

Kate Middleton once broke tradition by “ignoring a historic invitation from the royal family”, writes The Mirror.

Royal rules dictate that those not yet married into the royal family be excluded from family holidays such as Christmas and Easter, so Kate generally did not attend official royal celebrations with Prince William until December 2011. This was the couple’s first Christmas since their wedding.

But royal author Robert Lacey said the late Queen Elizabeth II invited her eldest grandson’s lover to a festive event before her engagement to William, but he declined. The expert recalled in his book Battle of Brothers that William’s grandmother broke with tradition and invited an uninvited partner to the traditional family Christmas dinner for the first time in 2006.

But Kate, who was 24 at the time, reportedly turned down the historic request because the late Queen had practically broken no rules in her 96 years of life. The Princess of Wales later decided that she would “only go to Sandringham for Christmas when she is engaged”.

At the time, the couple had been together for about five years. William proposed in 2010.

Interestingly, Meghan Markle was allowed to attend Prince Harry’s royal Christmas before they got married in 2018.

Let us remind you that the Princess of Wales “avoided drama” during her cancer treatment.
