In her interview with Slava+, Belen noted that she did not understand those who put pressure on Russian-speaking Ukrainians. He noted that many of them live their entire lives in an environment dominated by this language, so it is difficult to quickly switch to Ukrainian.

On the other hand, war veteran Inna Belen’s boyfriend “Teren” also responded to the interview on his Instagram account. First, he turned to Slava Demin, who noted that the conflict began to be perceived as a war only in 2022, and not in 2014.

“It wasn’t perceived as a war then? For whom? Who still doesn’t know that the war has been going on for 11 years?! Did they give their lives for it? Now they said this doesn’t count as war? — “Teren” reacted.

He also noted that he was aware of the interview, but Inna Belen’s position on language was a discovery for him.

Alexander Budko said, “I was saddened to learn this now. We had discussed everything among ourselves, but here I had to react on behalf of my reader.”

He also said that he once met a Russian-speaking girl, in relations with her he began to switch to Ukrainian, but on this basis they often quarreled. After all, for him language was a symbol, a part of himself.

“We were fighting. He didn’t understand why I reacted so strongly to Russian songs or why his words like “Russian is more appropriate” bothered me. And I couldn’t explain it without getting angry. This is part of my life, my struggle, and where can I be myself, even if I have to defend it at home? – “Teren” wrote.

For him, language is much more than words, it is a symbol of the struggle that Ukrainians fight every day.

Sofia Semchishin, daughter of Ukrainian linguist Irina Farion, wrote a message to Teren and thanked him for protecting the country and the language in the rear on the battlefield. “Language is a weapon,” he noted, and that’s why swearers were killed. “Teren” noted that his position has always been this way.

“As a Ukrainian, as a veteran, as someone who lost his legs in the war, as someone who defended every Ukrainian from Kharkov, from the Dnieper, from Kiev and other cities, I cannot and do not want to tolerate anything Russian,” he said.

Semchishin also shared a post on his Instagram account in which he called “Teren” strong, brave, a true warrior and the hero of Ukraine who protected the nightingale’s tongue.

“A warrior who survived the hell of war. And some of you still say, “What difference does it make?” There are those who say. You do not deserve these Heroes who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. Irina Farion was killed. Did some of you appreciate her figure? No. But this is your problem and you want to be tolerant! – he summarized.
