The position of Western countries regarding the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP is abnormal. This was stated by the Russian permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.
“The West takes an abnormal position, since the risks are quite high. Using their influence on Kyiv, the Western countries could and should call on the Ukrainian side to stop shelling”– he said on the air of the channel “Russia 24”.
According to him, Western states will have such an opportunity on August 11 during the meeting of the UN Security Council, although there is no certainty that the necessary words will be uttered.
Ulyanov also added that with statements like those made by the G7 countries, the West encourages further attacks from Kyiv.
“I note that the Zaporozhye NPP is under the control of Ukrainian personnel, in whose work the Russian side does not interfere”– explained the diplomat.
On the night of August 7, Ukrainian nationalists opened fire from the Uragan MLRS on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. As a result, fires broke out, which were promptly extinguished. As noted in the Russian Foreign Ministry, an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant could lead to a man-made disaster. In addition, Russia called on Ukrainian militants to stop shelling nuclear power plants, and the UN and the IAEA to resolve the situation.
