“This is an amazing emotion, I am so happy to see him and I will see three more (his children),” said the wet-eyed woman and hugged her son David.

“He came first, the one who suffered the most, because he didn’t know anyone, he didn’t know how to get there. He helped his brothers to come,” said Alcantara, who has four children in New York and several grandchildren that she and her husband Emilio Ansures will meet on this trip.

Her husband also said that he was happy to see his children while David listened carefully to them, and although with the help of technology he continued to see and talk to his parents in Mexico, today he realized that it is not the same because now “I can hug them”.

David remembered that he came to this city when he was about 18 years old and now works as a cook in a restaurant. “I’m not complaining,” he said, and assured that during these days, while the reunion lasts, he will now cook for them.

The Ansurez of Alcantara are among a group of five families who arrived in this city today to meet their children (all from Huepan) whom they have not seen for 15 or 20 years.

According to Consul Jorge Islas López, his fifteen-day trip with the necessary visas was organized and paid for by the government of this municipality.

This is a pleasure, and I thank God for this opportunity, ”Escobar confirmed, and also assured that he was ready to go“ wherever they lead me ”to get to know New York and“ take advantage of the time ”with his daughter and grandson. who will be his tour guide.

Huayapan’s representative, Guillermina Councilor Maya Rendon, pointed out that 688 people from this municipality live in New York, mostly in Queens County. and, remembering that they were natives, addressed his guests with a few words in the Nahuatl language.

“We left today at 1am (from Huayapan), but I’m sure their hearts have wanted to meet for years,” she confirmed and assured that they will continue to promote this family reunion.

For his part, Consul Islas assured that the emigrants of this municipality represent “the culture, history, dignity, pride of the indigenous peoples.”
