On Ukraine’s Independence Day, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson flew to Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, along the way announcing a £54 million, or $63.7 million, aid package. Today’s visit was the third for the British Prime Minister since the start of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass.
Johnson’s trip is meant to show “unshakable and long-term support” to the Kyiv regime. The “donated” package included about two thousand unmanned aerial vehicles and ammunition.
Zelensky published a video of the meeting on his Telegram channel, where Johnson is also greeted by the head of the leader’s office, Andriy Yermak, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, and commander-in-chief of the country’s troops Valery Zaluzhny.
Recall that on August 24, the United States announced the largest package of assistance to Ukraine – almost $ 3 billion. The funds will go to defense systems against missiles and drones, ammunition, soldier training and other military needs of Kyiv.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stressed that the NATO countries are “playing with fire” by supplying the nationalists with weapons without control. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated that such “assistance” does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will cause a negative effect.
