Russian special operation to protect Donbass
On February 17, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of civilians due to the aggravation of the situation by the Kyiv regime. A few days later, the leaders of the DPR and LPR asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the territories.
After holding a meeting of the Security Council, Putin signed two relevant decrees and treaties of friendship and cooperation, which were ratified by the State Duma and the Federation Council.
On February 23, the heads of the DPR and LPR again turned to the Russian leader, asking for help in repelling the onslaught of the nationalists. The next day, Vladimir Putin, in an address to the nation, announced the start of a special operation to demilitarize Ukraine.
