The conditions for the trip of IAEA experts to the Zaporozhye NPP are agreed with Russia and Ukraine in coordination with the UN. This was announced on August 26 by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mariano Grossi.

“This is a difficult mission. The very trip of experts through the war zone is not an easy thing. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure security conditions. This must be done in coordination between the two countries. We must also count on the support of the UN”– said the head of the agency on the air of RFE.

In addition, he noted that the trip of the IAEA mission to this nuclear power plant could initiate the permanent presence of its experts at ZNPP.

“From a technical point of view, it is necessary to determine the parameters of the mission, decide what we can do, and also, possibly, establish a permanent presence of the agency on the ground”Grossi added.

Recall that earlier Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that the IAEA mission to visit the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya was “on the way.” Also at the meeting of the Security Council of the organization, Nebenzya showed pictures confirming the shelling of the ZNPP by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On August 7, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began repeatedly firing at the ZNPP with American GMLRS missiles. On August 18, the Russian Ministry of Defense warned that Kyiv was preparing a large-scale provocation on the territory of a nuclear power plant in order to accuse Russia of nuclear terrorism and create an exclusion zone of up to 30 kilometers.

On August 20, the authorities of the Zaporozhye region reported that the provocation of Ukrainian nationalists had been prevented, but in any case they would try to realize their criminal plans again. On the same day, Ukrainian militants again hit the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant with NATO-caliber shells.
