The British Ministry of Defense and BAE Systems have entered the final stage of negotiations regarding the construction of five new Type 26 frigates for the country’s navy, the Telegraph newspaper writes.
“We are currently working on our proposal for a second batch of Type 26 frigates, including five more, for a total of eight.”a spokesman for the company said.
Negotiations on the production of new frigates were conducted for 18 months. The execution of the contract, according to the publication, will take several years.
“We are in the final stages of negotiations, but the agreement has not yet been concluded”– summed up in the company.
Earlier it was reported that the new British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales broke down shortly after sailing from the coast. He was supposed to arrive at the base to participate in American naval exercises. Residents of the United Kingdom called the breakdown a “shame” and “a symbol of all Britain.”
