Aircraft engine caught fire during takeoff

An engine caught fire on a plane at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport as the aircraft overran the runway and attempted to take off. About it Indian media reported. The video was posted by eyewitnesses on social networks.

Police Deputy Commissioner Tanu Sharma said the flight was from Delhi to Bangalore. There were 177 passengers and 7 crew members on board.

“The plane took off to the runway for takeoff. The flight was stopped, all passengers were safely evacuated”, the commissioner said.

Officials clarified that as a result, passengers were transferred to another flight. It is specified that the plane was quickly extinguished, the situation is under control.

IndiGo Airlines, commenting on the situation, said that the flight encountered a technical problem during the takeoff run, the pilot immediately aborted the takeoff, the plane returned to the station.

“All passengers and crew are safe” — specified in the company.

The cause of the engine fire will be determined during a detailed investigation.

In March, a similar incident occurred in a passenger plane flying from Sochi to Orenburg, its engine also caught fire during takeoff.
