Biden to nominate Daniel Werfel as his next IRS chief

US President Joe Biden appoints Daniel Werfel as head of the Internal Revenue ServiceIRS, a senior administration official, as well as two other people familiar with the matter, reported this.

Daniel Werfel is not a person outside the tax office.took over in 2013 after former President Barack Obama named him acting commissioner following a crisis of mismanagement.

“At the time he was head of the IRS, Daniel Werfel ensured stability by effectively responding to numerous congressional investigations, in addition to successfully launching Citizens Act technology with low health care costs, which the agency was responsible for, as well as managing the IRS through a multi-week government shutdown,” the White House said in a statement.

Daniel Werfel will replace Charles Rettig.who was appointed by Donald Trump and his last day as head of the IRS will be this Saturday.

The senior official also pointed out that Daniel Werfel also worked in the Office of Management and Budget as Deputy Comptroller. and later federal comptroller in the Bush and Obama administrations. He is currently a Managing Director and Partner of the Boston Consulting Group.
