According to journalists, the Joe Biden administration may take such a decision to limit the influence of the Wagner Group on the territory of Ukraine and African countries.
Insiders stressed that the White House has yet to decide whether to declare Yevgeny Prigozhin’s private army a terrorist organization that would allow the United States to prosecute mercenaries and seize PMC assets around the world.
“The action against the Wagner Group will mark a new effort by the United States to counter the group, which has gained worldwide fame and influence since its mercenaries played an important role in the conflict, particularly since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24. ” material says, Bloomberg.
The State Department interlocutor refused to confirm the discussions regarding the designation of the Wagner Group as a terrorist group, but assured that the United States would continue to hold those responsible for the invasion of Ukraine accountable.
A few days ago, Members of the European Parliament wrote an appeal to Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Petr Fiale, Czech Prime Minister, calling for the Wagner Group to be recognized as a terrorist organization in the European Union. The Wagner Group has also reportedly recruited fighters convicted of war crimes in the Central African Republic.
