Grossi allowed the approval of the ZNPP protection zone in the near future

The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, allowed the agreement of the security zone in the near future. It says on the site agencies.

“I urge an immediate cessation of all shelling in the entire area”Grossi said in a statement.

Earlier, the head of the IAEA announced the possibility of creating a security zone around the ZNPP by the end of 2022.

On December 6, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov allowed the conclusion of a security agreement around the Zaporizhzhya NPP by the end of 2023. On December 8, he announced that Russia had sent its proposals to the IAEA with parameters for creating a security zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

On November 19 and 20, the Zaporozhye NPP came under the most intense shelling of all time by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ukrainian shells damaged the second special building of the nuclear power plant.

The Kremlin noted that Russia maintains contact with representatives of the IAEA, which concerns the creation of a safe zone around the nuclear power plant in the Zaporozhye region.

The Federation Council reported that they were preparing proposals for organizing security at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. For this, interdepartmental consultations were held, as well as the reports of invited experts were studied.

On December 2, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that the agency was approaching an agreement on the safety of the ZNPP. He called the withdrawal of troops from its territory one of the conditions of the agreements on the protection of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
