Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council on the evening of 11 December in connection with the worsening of the situation in Northern Kosovo. This was reported by Serbian national television RTS.

The Serbian leader made this decision after Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti gave Kosovo Serbs an ultimatum to remove the barricades in the north by the end of December 11th.

“Today is by far the hardest day for me since I became president. Perhaps the most difficult night awaits me,” said Vučić.

He urged Serbs in northern Kosovo and Metohija to remain calm and peaceful and not succumb to provocations.

The President said, “I hope from KFOR[Kosova’da istikrarı sağlamaktan sorumlu NATO liderliğindeki uluslararası güç]We receive assurances that they will not take violent action against demonstrators. We keep talking to them, that’s our job,” he said at the meeting.

Vučić stressed that he is proud of the Serbian army and police.

“Before we receive any orders other than alarm and increased combat readiness, we will try to restore peace for all our citizens millions of times before,” said the Serbian President.

Vučić urged Serbs not to touch the personnel of KFOR and EULEX (a special mission of the European Union to Kosovo, involving 2,000 civilians and law enforcement).

According to the president, Serbian special services noticed that preparations for provocation were being made among the Kosovo Albanian forces. Vučić stated that they could attack KFOR and EULEX, disguised as protesters.

Serbia and Kosovo on the brink of war – the West’s reaction
