The maker of the explosives in the Lockerbie bombing is in U.S. custody.

A man accused of making the bomb that blew up Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988 is in US custody.say the Scottish prosecutors.

The bombing of a US-bound Boeing 747 killed all 259 people on board and 11 on the ground, making it the UK’s deadliest terrorist attack in history.

The United States filed charges against Abu Aguila Massoud two years ago, alleging that he played a key role in the December 21, 1988 bombing.

The man was detained two years after the United States brought charges against him, the Crown Prosecution and Fiscal Service for Scotland (COPFS) said Sunday.

A U.S. Justice Department spokesman told the media, without giving a date, that Massoud is due to appear before the District Court of the District of Columbia. on two criminal charges against him related to the bombing.

Former Libyan intelligence agentAbdelbaset al-Megrahi had already been convicted of mass murder in 2001.

Although Massoud is the third Libyan intelligence officer to be charged in the US in connection with the attack, he will be the first to face a US court for prosecution.

In 2001, al-Megrahi was found guilty of the plane bombing after he stood trial in a specially convened Scottish court in the Netherlands.

He was the only person convicted of assault and was sentenced to life in prison in 2001. He was later released because he was suffering from cancer and died in 2012.
