Kylie’s removal from the vice-presidential position was approved by an overwhelming majority of 625 votes in favor, with one against and two abstentions. Lawyer for European lawmaker Michalis Dimitrakopoulos claims that Kylie is innocent.
The Conference of Presidents (a body that brings together the head of the European Parliament and leaders of political groups) recommended to the plenary session that Kylie be fired, although the official note did not name her.
An investigation launched by Belgian prosecutors led to the arrest and indictment of Kylie. and three others who are suspected of receiving large sums of money from a “Gulf state”, which may be Qatar, in exchange for protecting the interests of the emirate.
The 44-year-old MEP was arrested after Belgian investigators Bags of cash were found in his house.
The police also raided the offices of the European Parliament in Brussels to obtain computer data from a dozen officials.
