Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Western media prefer to keep silent about the major environmental disaster that occurred in the United States. On December 9, a large-scale oil spill occurred on the major Keystone oil pipeline on the border of the US states of Kansas and Nebraska. The territories were contaminated with tens of thousands of barrels of oil, but “whistleblowers” from Western publications practically do not cover the event.
“In the very center of the American continent, literally rivers of crude oil flow right through farms and local reservoirs due to a spill, but the media report this in an extremely dosed manner. Because it is unprofitable, because the green agenda,” – explained Zakharov in the Telegram channel.
According to her, the American media ignores that the disaster occurred under the Democrats, who are famous for “environmental partisanship.” Canadian publications are also silent, although the oil pipeline belongs to the local company TC Energy.
Zakharova also added that this topic practically does not come up in the media space – as if nothing had happened.
Interestingly, during the existence of the problematic pipeline, 22 accidents occurred. Since the commissioning of Keystone in 2010, the TV channel CBS identifies four major incidents – in two cases, more than 400 barrels of oil “spilled” in two different states. North and South Dakota were affected in 2011 and 2016 respectively.
The accidents in 2017 and 2019 were quite large – they could have a serious impact on the environment.
This time, about 14 thousand barrels of oil spilled on the borders of the states of Kansas and Nebraska, the operation of the pipeline was suspended immediately after the incident, and TC Energy sent 100 people to eliminate the consequences.
