Two people were found dead Tuesday at the University of California, Irvine in a murder-suicide case.
University police were called around 3:52 p.m. with a report about a man and a woman. on land outside the Faculty of Social Sciences, the sergeant said. Cary Davis, spokesman for the Irvine Police Department.
According to Davis, campus officials called the Irvine police, who took over the investigation.
it is believed that two people who have not been identified are related to each other. The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
After a preliminary investigation, detectives learned that the man was a former university student, Davis said. On Tuesday evening, it is not known if the woman was also connected to the institution.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of two people on campus this afternoon,” UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman said in a statement. “We are still gathering information on who the victims are and what exactly happened, but law enforcement has told us that there is no permanent danger to our community.”
The university has created resources for students, faculty and staff who need help, Gillman said.
The Chancellor urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to call the Police Department.
