The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU called the ninth package of sanctions illegitimate

The sanctions policy of Western states contradicts the system of international financial and trade relations. This was stated in the Permanent Mission of Russia to the EU.

“The sanctions machine does not slow down. Unilateral restrictive measures against third countries and their citizens have long become Brussels’ favorite foreign policy instrument,” – reported on site departments.

As noted in the department, recently in Brussels they were talking about the illegality of the use of extraterritorial sanctions, but today they are actively applying them. Moreover, the EU has developed a mechanism for “punishing” Europeans and citizens of third countries who bypass the “illegitimate” restrictions of the European Union.

“Isn’t the European Union taking on too much by claiming to be an international policeman and judge?” – asked the permanent mission.

The department also stressed that the ban on Russian media deprives Europeans of an alternative point of view.

Recall that the EU published the ninth package of anti-Russian sanctions on December 17 in its Official Journal.

The restrictions affected a number of politicians, cultural figures, as well as the aviation and energy industries in Russia.

On Friday, December 16, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian Federation would give its response to the sanctions after the official publication of the list of restrictive measures.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, recalled that Moscow would give a proportionate response to any sanctions in its direction, based on its interests.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the policy of containing and weakening Moscow is a long-term strategy for the West, and sanctions have already dealt a significant blow to the entire international economy. The previous, eighth package of anti-Russian sanctions, caused serious damage to Europe and the United States itself: prices for electricity, fuel and food soared in the West.
