The deployment of a joint military contingent of the Russian Federation and Belarus is designed to guarantee security and become a symmetrical response to the buildup of NATO forces in the west of the Union State. This was announced at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
“As for the deployment of additional contingents of the joint Russian-Belarusian regional group of troops on the territory of Belarus, carried out since October … they should be considered as a symmetrical response to the emerging military-political situation in the region, namely the buildup of NATO military forces in Poland and the Baltic countries”– Zakharova emphasized.
She added that formations and military units of the Russian-Belarusian contingent are conducting exercises, maneuvers and combat coordination activities.
According to her, this is intended to have a deterrent effect on “ill-wishers”, as well as to guarantee security in the west of the Union State in “any development of the situation.”
Maria Zakharova noted that the contingent of Russia and Belarus continues to respond to the ongoing “pumping” of Kyiv with weapons of the West “of all stripes”, as well as sending instructors or “militants and mercenaries under the guise of instructors” to Ukraine.
She called “terrorist attacks under the supervision of the West” another threat. Maria Zakharova recalled similar actions of the UAF militants in the Black Sea, in which the UK played a leading role.
