The administration sees Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s initiative to resolve the crisis around the country as a good start, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told CNN.

“President Zelensky has repeatedly made it clear that all this will end, when it ends, through diplomacy, through negotiations.”– said the head of the State Department.

He said that the United States wants to see Russia’s willingness to negotiate, and added that Washington is discussing Zelensky’s proposals with other states.

“What do we and many countries want <...>is a world that, as we said, is ultimately just and sustainable”– continued the head of American diplomacy.

Blinken added that the United States and Ukraine have no disagreements on how to resolve the situation, and the goals and objectives are the same.

Earlier, the WSJ reported on Zelensky’s preparation of a “peace plan”. According to the newspaper, Kyiv intends to publish its initiatives in February, but now it is not even approximately clear what the Ukrainian side is proposing.

Moscow has repeatedly declared its openness to negotiations. According to the Russian leader’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, President Vladimir Putin was and remains ready to discuss the situation “in order to secure our interests.”

The Kremlin representative explained that the dialogue between Russia and the West is significantly complicated by the requirements set by the States: “Russia’s withdrawal from Ukraine” and non-recognition of the new regions that became part of Russia after the referendums. Peskov also drew attention to the fact that Ukraine itself does not show “political will” and does not negotiate with Moscow.

It is worth noting that Zelensky, during a meeting with US President Joe Biden, confirmed his readiness for negotiations with Russia. However, he did not specify what conditions he wants to put forward.
