North Korea has launched drones over South Korea in response to joint exercises between Seoul and the United States. So says Sangsu Lee, a senior fellow at the Stockholm Institute for Security Policy and Development.

In conversation with “Tape.ru” he noted that Pyongyang’s desire to demonstrate its technical potential to South Korea could also serve as a possible reason.

“Pyongyang tried to show that it has advanced intelligence technologies, in particular reconnaissance drones”Lee explained.

Recall that on the morning of December 26, North Korean drones crossed the border with South Korea, after which they managed to fly to the outskirts of Seoul. In addition to air defense systems, South Korean troops used fighter jets and helicopters to shoot down the drones, and one plane even crashed. The crew was not injured.

During the hunt for drones, the authorities had to ban the flights of civilian ships, due to which about 30 flights were delayed.

Later, the South Korean Defense Ministry said that in response to the penetration of North Korean drones into the country, they sent drones.
