China believes that Western countries have treated Russia unfairly, and a similar situation in Ukraine may one day happen in Taiwan. Such an opinion expressed in the Chinese newspaper Global Times, citing analysts.

“Since the beginning of the crisis, the US and Western countries have been talking about Taiwan as the next Ukraine. This made many Chinese feel that tomorrow China will have to face what the West has done to Russia today”Wang Yiwei, director of the Institute of International Relations at the People’s University of China, said in an interview with the publication.

Because of this, as he noted, many Chinese people see the common interests of Beijing and Moscow and believe that cooperation between the two countries in various fields will provide opportunities for economic development.

The publication, citing other analysts, says that China has always taken a neutral stance on events in Ukraine, since many “do not want to take sides on this complex issue, which cannot simply be blamed on Russia or Ukraine.” It is also emphasized that Beijing does not want to change its views because of Western propaganda.

Many, as the Global Times article highlights, see the West’s treatment of Russia as unfair, and are concerned that Washington could impose reckless sanctions on anyone who does not obey the US.
