The case was opened because of the death of children from syrup in Uzbekistan

A criminal case has been opened in Uzbekistan after 18 children died because of a cold remedy. This information was reported by the press service of the State Security Service of the country.

The minors took syrup “Doc-1 Max” supplied from India. Later, the main substance of the antifreeze, ethylene glycol, was found in the preparation.

“A criminal case has been initiated against the officials of Quramax Medical and the Scientific Center for Standardization of Medicines LLC under clause “a” part 4 of article 186-3 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (“Violation of the procedure for the retail sale of prescription drugs containing potent substances” )”the ministry said in a statement.

Law enforcement officers have already received the results of a medical examination. They confirm that the composition of the syrup included a life-threatening substance.

In addition, the service added that law enforcement officers detained and placed Quramax Medical officials and several employees of the Scientific Center for Standardization of Medicines in a pre-trial detention center.

Recall that the tragedy became known earlier in the day. Of the 21 children, 18 children were reported to have died from acute renal failure.

All these minors drank syrup with “anti-freeze” three or four times a day for almost a week. After the incident, law enforcement officers launched an investigation.
