Hungary, with its position, undermines the unity of the EU countries on the issue of Ukraine. This statement was made by the British newspaper financial times.

The publication notes that Budapest is not only in tense relations with Kyiv, but also continues to cooperate with Russia. The European Union does not like this very much.

The newspaper recalled the words of the Hungarian research institute Political Capital Peter Kreko. He previously stated that Hungary is trying to maintain a full-fledged dialogue with the Russian Federation and maintains a full staff of the Russian embassy in the country.

In addition, at the moment there are twice as many diplomats from Russia in Hungary than in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The country itself, as the newspaper emphasizes, is highly dependent on Russian energy resources. That is why Budapest opposes anti-Russian sanctions – so as not to harm its economy.

Hungary also blocked Ukraine’s participation in meetings of the North Atlantic Alliance and refused to send its weapons to Kyiv.

A diplomat from one of the EU countries, who spoke with the publication, expressed the opinion that in the spring the political differences between Budapest and the European Union will surface again. This will happen during a discussion in the Hungarian capital of the release of due funds from EU funds.

Recall that a few days ago, the Financial Times found out what the “hostility” of the leaders of Hungary and Ukraine, Viktor Orban and Volodymyr Zelensky, would lead to.
