English writer Kureishi fell and was partially paralyzed

English writer, screenwriter and playwright Hanif Kureishi was partially paralyzed due to a fall. He wrote about this on Friday on his Twitter.

The 68-year-old writer said that on December 26, in the center of Rome, he lost consciousness and fell when he was returning home. When he woke up, he no longer felt his arms and legs, and next to him was his wife.

“I’ve had spinal cord surgery and have had little improvement in the last few days”the writer said.

Kureishi added that the situation is still very difficult, he cannot scratch his nose, make phone calls or eat on his own.

Hanifa Kureishi is known for such works as, for example, the script for the film “My Beautiful Laundry” directed by Stephen Frears, the picture was nominated for an Oscar.

His debut novel Suburban Buddha in 1990 won the prestigious British Whitbread Prize (called the Costa Prize since 2006) and became the basis for a film.
