The Bundestag called on the German authorities to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine

Germany should send Ukraine not only Marder infantry fighting vehicles, but also Leopard tanks, Bundestag vice-presidents Katrin Goering-Eckardt and Wolfgang Kubiki said, writes Hamburger Abendblatt.

Goering-Eckardt called it wrong if Germany limited itself to the supply of infantry fighting vehicles.

“We must do and provide everything possible. This also applies to Leopard tanks”she added.

Kubiki supported this idea, but noted that these steps need to be coordinated with NATO allies.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on January 6 that Berlin would transfer the Marder BMP and one Patriot air defense system to the Ukrainian army. The Russian Embassy in Germany called this a step towards the escalation of the conflict.

Western countries, led by the United States, supported Kyiv in the confrontation with Moscow and began supplying weapons and other military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stressed that any shipments of weapons supplied to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Aerospace Forces. Also, Moscow has repeatedly pointed out that military assistance only prolongs the conflict and threatens to turn into a head-on collision between Russia and NATO, which the Kyiv regime is trying to achieve.
