The authorities of the Kamensky Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine – the hometown of Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPSU Leonid Brezhnev – will not consider the issue of dismantling the monument in his honor. This was stated to the Ukrainian edition of Vesti by the first deputy mayor of Kamensky Alexander Chernyshev, his corresponding letter was posted on the evening of January 8.

According to Chernyshev, there is no money for the demolition of the monument to Brezhnev.

“There are not enough funds to dismantle the bust of the Secretary General”, – wrote the official.

He added that additional funding is needed to carry out the demolition of the bust of Leonid Brezhnev. However, spending from the city’s budget “first of all is directed to ensuring the measures of territorial defense, the safety of the population and ensuring its vital activity, the functioning of the public sector and public utilities.”

The letter also says that the topic of demolishing the monument to Brezhnev will be considered “after the end of hostilities.”

The demolition of monuments related to Soviet and Russian history, the authorities of Ukraine began in 2015 after the adoption of the law “On the condemnation of the communist and Nazi regimes.” With the start of the special operation, all the monuments associated with Russia were put under the bucket, regardless of the period. Recently, the monument to the Soviet soldier-liberator near Lvov and the monuments to Pushkin in Ananiev, Chernivtsi and Zhitomir have been demolished.

Also, representatives of the country arrange provocations against Russian art. For example, on December 7, Ukraine tried to disrupt the premiere of Boris Godunov, an opera by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, at La Scala theater in Milan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Kyiv had been pursuing a policy of forced assimilation and aggressive de-Russification for many years. The Minister stressed that Russia wants to see Ukraine as a friendly one – without prohibitions on Russian culture and the Russian language.
