Canada’s latest announcement of aid to Ukraine is ridiculous. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov.

“The cabinet of (Canada Prime Minister Justin) Trudeau, which sends money to incite conflict and support an illegitimate regime thousands of kilometers from Canada, looks ridiculous,” he said in conversation with RIA News.

According to Stepanov, such decisions by Canada are ridiculous against the backdrop of internal problems.

This is how the diplomat commented on the decision of Ottawa to buy $400 million worth of NASAMS air defense systems and ammunition from the United States to help Ukraine.

In December 2022, the United States signed a billion-dollar contract to purchase NASAMS for Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stressed that any shipments of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the supply of weapons would not stop, but would prolong the conflict in Ukraine. In the light of this fact, the position of the Western countries seems “harmful” and “counterproductive”.

In turn, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from Western countries would not contribute to the success of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and would also have a negative effect.
