Krasnov said that the ECtHR cannot consider complaints against Russia

Russia has ceased cooperation with the ECtHR since March 15 last year. Therefore, the court’s decision to consider complaints against Russia about violations that took place before September 16 last year has no legal grounds, said Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov.

According to him, the date of September 16 reflects the position of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe as the time for the termination of Russia’s participation in the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

However, on March 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to withdraw the country from the Council of Europe. The organization has been officially informed of this, reports “News“.

At the same time, the European Court, in the absence of legal grounds, recognized itself as competent to consider complaints filed against the Russian Federation on alleged violations of the ECHR that took place before September 16. Such gross violations of the norms of international law by the Council of Europe only indicate that the mechanisms of this organization are used as a tool to solve the geopolitical problems of individual authors who promote discriminatory decisions against our country“, – concluded Krasnov.

Russia left the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights on 15 March. Moscow clarified that only those judgments of the ECtHR that comply with the Russian Constitution will be implemented. On the same day, PACE unanimously adopted a resolution stating that Russia could no longer be a member of the Council of Europe. The next day, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to terminate Moscow’s membership in the organization.
